Flip Video from the K-9 CoP
Here is video shot on February 15 using the Flip Video camera. I think the video quality is pretty good for an inexpensive device.
Good tool for field trips. The clips came right up on my laptop, so I think the issue we had Friday was with the SV laptop. Let me know if you would like to borrow it.

24 bills have been submitted to Congress and their primary focus is enforcement of copyright.
Copyright Actions
Lawsuits continue against downloading music and video illegally…but now there are sites that you can do this legally
Youtube.com is using technology to detect copyrighted materials placed on their site. When they find copyrighted material they will take it off the site.

Copyright Office website
Some Copyright Information:
Downloading/Streaming
· Downloading iTunes and videos from YouTube is conditionally permissible
· Read the Terms and Conditions: who does this? Most of us agree to it but most of them have restrictions that make you enter a contract…contract law supersedes copyright law.
· When an individual pays to download some music, what is permitted for that person, personal use only, is to use that mp3 up to 5 times
· However, educators, can take portions of that music and incorporate them into parts of their lessons….within the limited copyright portions, you can not use the music in its entirety
· When we want to start sharing this…it doesn’t come with that privilege…you can’t make copies and distribute it!
· Itunes University: all universities that are participating in this project, wide range of material that might apply…material that has already obtained copyright for educators…use this as a great resource!
· A work is deemed copyrighted once it is created and produced in a medium…under that persons copyright or your school’s copyright, or your districts copyright…but once you download to YouTube, you are saying that it can be shared and used by anyone else
· If you want to use a video off YouTube for professional development you should really write for permission to the site that is sourced as its home
Podcasting
Generally prior permission required
When you go beyond personal use, it does not give us that permission to share or distribute over and over again, only short time, one time use
You can use a small portion of the podcast
Use of Music: there are multiple copyrights: composition, recording and performance rights
Application of Trademark Law
Publicity Rights (Recording of images/voice of others)…when you interview elderly have you had the people sign off on copyright so that you can produce and distribute this interview globally
Transmission and Distribution of Podcast raises an issue because we don’t have that right as educators only in distance learning (only on a restricted access network) internet is NOT a restricted access network!
Creative Commons Licensing: a project to have people become a participant of this project where you put things on a Creative Commons Licensing page where you give credit to the source, act within the guidelines and use it!
Sources for Copyright Cleared Material
Creative Commons: creativecommons.org
Wiki/Content Curators: (part of creative commons) Aggregator sited for where copyrighted materials are located
Google has an advanced web search and you can search for things that are shared to use, etc.
GMP Music: sells to many organizations
Soundzabound: primarily education
Have to pay for access to these libraries for podcasts, movies, digital storytelling,
